Jean and Jun met around 4 years before they married in an elegant celebration at New York’s famed Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Their love story started as a vetted blind date organized by Jun’s best friend and Jean’s older brother.

Jean explained to me that she identifies as being bicultural – neither singularly Korean nor American, but also somehow both. Having grown up in a Korean family in Milan, Italy, and moved to NYC about a decade ago, Jun said he felt as confused as she did.

To me, Jean and Jun’s elegant bicultural wedding was a beautiful example of how two people can come together in love and commitment, based on a mutual understanding of and respect for each other’s unique history and identity.

They chose not to have a bridal party, but instead had their parents walk together during the processional. Both of their mothers wore custom-made, traditional Korean dresses, called “Han-bok” for the ceremony.

One of my favorite details to photograph was the bride’s dress. The skirt was so striking, covered in silk florals! Every detail of this wedding was so elegant and thoughtful. From Jean’s hair in an elegant low bun, (perfect against her veil) to the minimal color palette and creamy florals.

They chose Blue Hill for their wedding venue as they were looking for a location with both indoor and outdoor spaces. They wanted somewhere with a strong reputation for quality food and drinks (and of course, Blue Hill did not disappoint!)

Jean was overcome by emotion as she walked down the aisle, and sweetly covered her face with her bouquet
