This colorful Oaxaca wedding mirrored the lives of Anna and Alfonso becoming one. They incorporated personal details, family heirlooms, and Mexican wedding traditions. The wedding celebrated Alfonso’s Mexican culture and the Anna’s Southern roots with colorful decor and rustic touches.

Anna and Alfonso wanted their guests to wake up the next morning saying “that was the best wedding I have ever been to” without any doubt. The bride and groom were very intentional about choosing the music, food, drinks, and activities leading up to the wedding so that the guests got a genuine experience of Mexico in addition to attending the wedding ceremony.

Alfonso wore a peacock feather bow tie from Charleston, South Carolina.

A Timeless Oaxaca Wedding Venue at Quinta Real

When Alfonso popped the question Anna said, “Yes! Can we get married in Oaxaca?!” And that is exactly what Anna and Alfonso did. A wedding at Quinta Real Oaxaca is like stepping into a fairytale. With its elegant colonial architecture, lush gardens, and timeless charm, it’s the perfect setting for a wedding. From exchanging vows in the picturesque courtyard to celebrating under the stars in the beautiful gardens, every moment at Quinta Real Oaxaca is unforgettable.

We were so lucky to be able to photograph in the Botanic Garden in Oaxaca City. It houses the most ancient and beautiful cacti and gorgeous textures to play with.

A Historical Charming Wedding Ceremony at Iglesia Santo Domingo

Above all, having your wedding ceremony at Iglesia Santo Domingo is a blend of tradition, history, and romance. This iconic church is centrally located in Oaxaca City, Iglesia Santo Domingo. With its Baroque architecture and ornate details, this church provides a breathtaking backdrop for exchanging vows. Equally, the grandeur of the church’s interior with intricate sculptures and beautiful altars, added a sense of reverence to Alfonso and Anna’s Oaxaca wedding.

As can be seen, the Calenda, featuring giant puppets, live music, and dancers, led the wedding party and guests from the church to the reception.

Anna + Alfonso cut the cake with the same knife Anna’s parents used to cut their wedding cake. As a matter of fact, the knife was already engraved with her parents’ names and their wedding anniversary, and Anna + Alfonso’s names and wedding date added to the engraving.

Alfonso and his mom also shared an epic first dance to an Edith Piaf remix to reference his French heritage.

The after-party lasted until 5am. And the guests were served Mexican street food (esquites and tlayudas) throughout the night to keep everyone fueled and the party going strong.
